FSX performance tweaks

Written by Thomas Monday, 14 December 2009 21:57

For those of you who are less than satisfied with the performance of FSX, and (like me) always bickering about the erratic results compared to what the "tooltips" in the settings panel tell you should increase/decrease performance, here is a modern classic about how to get the best out of FSX and your system in general. It also contains info about how to tune UTX (my environment addon of choice) and how to get the most out of NVidia cards.

The instructions in the article are not mine and I take no responsibility for them, although I have had good results from implementing them on several systems. Remember to backup your files before you start, and if you are hacking the CPU/GPU settings etc, make a system restore point first.

Saab 35 Draken 4.0a03 download

Written by Thomas Sunday, 13 December 2009 22:46

The first pre-release version of Draken for FSX is now available in the Downloads section.

Please note that this aircraft is only for Flight Simulator X Acceleration and will not be fully functional in any other version of FSX.

The installation consists of the J 35J version in one variant only. Texturing and model are not 100% finished yet, but flight and almost all gauges and systems should work. Drop tank animation is still not working. The brake chute will deploy even when the aircraft is motionless. These are known errors, so you need not report them.

For feedback please use the forum and/or the bug tracker.

Uploading

Written by Thomas Sunday, 13 December 2009 22:12

Uploading as we speak (blog).

I apologize for the delay but the network is slow as molasses today, which means that a lot of testing procedures etc. took forever to carry out. Also the upload is progressing veeeery slowly (the file is 13MB).

Please note that this is an early development alpha release, meaning that all parts of the product are not in place yet, or are not fully implemented. The finished product may be very very different. A beta release on the other hand contains all or almost all functions but is not fully tested.

I will post here when the upload is finished.

Almost finished

Compiling the installer right now, then I have to test that the installation actually works before uploading. So maybe an hour or so. Please be patient.  ;)

Pilot movements

Written by Thomas Sunday, 13 December 2009 00:01

Just added some more animations to the pilot in exterior view, he is now moving around due to the G forces when turning, accelerating, decelerating etc. Looks pretty cool... ;)

Weekend release coming up soon.  No kidding.

Cockpit lighting (exterior)

Tuesday, 03 August 2010
Added some more detail to the rather frugal cockpit in the exterior model. The instruments are now illuminated at night, yay! Comments (6)

VC vertical position

Tuesday, 03 August 2010
One of our members just pointed out to me that the VC is positioned somewhat below the cockpit in the exterior model. Odd, since the VC and the exterior model are...

Decals resolution

Tuesday, 27 July 2010
The low resolution of the smaller decals on the fuselage have been bothering me ever since the beginning of the project. The overall exterior texture resolution is rather low, since I...
