Crash and burn and W7
Written by Thomas Saturday, 24 October 2009 00:44
The PC that I use for development (a Delll XPS M1210 laptop) finally decided to crash and refuse to start unless in Safe Mode. Ah well. I probably had it coming considering the abuse I have put my system through these last few years.Since I own a fresh copy of Windows 7 I decided to install this instead of reinstalling the trusty XPProSP3. I already have W7 installed on the famliy PC and it works like a charm, so why not test it out with all the contraptions that I use for development... If it fails I can always reinstall XP and continue as before. The document files are not gone, only the OS. This also presents an opportunity to test my latest creations in a W7/DX10 environment.
Hair raising air racing

Just watched Paul Bonhomme do the perfect round in Barcelona 3 weeks ago, winning the 2009 Red Bull Air Race. Bloody great flying, 10+ G and totally focused, not a single error. The RBAR challenge in FSX is as close as I will ever get to this, and I seldom get past the first three gates without hitting something. I should probably stick to building the things, not flying them.
If any of you have air racing or otherwise aviation related stories/anecdotes to tell, please share them in the forum. Everyone likes to hear stories.
Comments in the blog

The rather iffy comment/reply system I had for the blog has been replaced with a much better Joomla component, JComments. Logged in users can now add comments to the blog posts, while guests can read the comments but not add or reply to them. Please note that you can not comment on comments, only on the original post.
Thank you!

My sincerest thanks for the generous contributions I have received via PayPal before and after the release of 3.2, they are much appreciated (and needed). Running this website with domain fees, security solutions, backups etc, costs about 300€ yearly, and the donations cover about 50% of that at the moment. But as any freeware or shareware developer knows, getting feedback from users is crucial to maintaining and supporting your software as well as growing in your profession/hobby. So I try to maintain a high standard with the (ad-free) news/download site, blog, and user forum, regardless of cost.
Uploading

For security reasons I will not introduce an upload system at this point. I have a number of options regarding down/upload systems but none of them are exactly what I want, and I am unsure about how to incorporate this into my webiste without opening a security hole again.
If you would like to contribute repaints etc., please mail or PM them (or a download link) to me and I will make them available in the Downloads section.
/Tom

Added some more detail to the rather frugal cockpit in the exterior model. The instruments are now illuminated at night, yay! Comments (6)
One of our members just pointed out to me that the VC is positioned somewhat below the cockpit in the exterior model. Odd, since the VC and the exterior model are... Read more...
The low resolution of the smaller decals on the fuselage have been bothering me ever since the beginning of the project. The overall exterior texture resolution is rather low, since I... Read more... |
