Back in business

Finally managed to clean my desk and get back to the real work (this kind of work).

This evening's task was to clean up the sound environment. First and foremost to get rid of the "boost" sound that appears when the afterburner is ignited in FSX. This has been a mystery to me, as I have not changed the sound configuration since FS9 and the sound is not present in FS9. But in FSX, I get this whoooosh sound which is totally unrealistic. In real life, you could not hear a difference in the engine sound with/without afterburner, so in the later FS9 versions I disabled the afterburner sound effect. Then in FSX, there was suddenly this nasty sound effect whenever the reheater was activated.

I finally pinned it down to the "Rumble" sound entry in sound.cfg, which in FSX seems to come on when the afterburner is activated. Disabled it and everything is back to normal. Very strange, since this is not how it works in FS9 AND there is no mention of it in the FSX SDK. I wonder why Aces had to change things around? And not document the changes? Hmm... Well, now we´re good again, so never mind them.

Next is to get the **** startup sequence in order, which is something that has been bothering me since version 1.x and onwards. I simply can NOT get the revs and sounds during spoolup to sync properly. Well, I probably just have to try harder.

Excpect some new videos the coming weeks showing off the radar and gunsight features. And - God willing - a beta release in March.
